"JP Morgan Securities (formerly Bear Stearns) has a traditional brokerage culture. If you're looking for entry-level work, you have two options at this company: The Junior Broker role and the Client Service Associate role. As a Jr Broker, you are basically a cold caller. You make 35K/year. Most of the people in this role are not successful, because they are asked to bring in a lot of business simply by cold calling. In my view, the days of telemarketing are over, and I would be very wary about accepting this role. If you're intent on becoming a broker, join a training program at a place like UBS or Morgan Stanley. The other option for entry-level people is to be a Client Service Associate. This is a good job for two types of people.

 #1) The type of person who wants to earn a pretty good salary and work 40 hours/week. This person is responsible and competent but is not motivated to rise through the corporate ranks. Because this is a dead end job. It is unlikely you will be offered any opportunity for advancement.

#2) Highly motivated people looking for an entry-level business job at a blue chip company who are willing to do a little grunt work. If you're willing to be in a support role and suffer through some boring work, you can use your entry-level JP Morgan job, because of the JP Morgan name, to land your dream job after putting in a year or two of work. But, beware. There is no question that this is a dead end job. There are no opportunities for real career growth. The pay can be quite good though. Although the salary is only about 50K, your brokers should pay you also. Typically CSAs make anywhere between 50K and 90K. I started at 50K and was making 70K within a year. "

"If you want opportunity you have to pursue it which means if you are entry level you can progress efficiently if the effort is put in. The benefits are better than average and the training and education programs are awesome. With that said, don't expect to have a life, the work life balance is truly terrible. "
